Weddings
Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding!
Thank you for considering getting married in our parish at either
St Edward’s Church, Eggbuckland or Christ Church, Estover.
Why do people choose church weddings?
Everyone’s reasons are different and personal but for many, the opportunity to make these life-changing promises to one another in a church brings a powerful spiritual element to the wedding, asking for God’s help in keeping their vows. For others, the beauty and historical significance of the building is a strong factor. There are several ways that you are able to personalise the service, and you receive help with this. As your local church community, we would like to support you not just on the wedding day itself but in your preparation for marriage and in the years to come.
Can I get married at a Church?
You are welcome to marry in the Church of England whatever your beliefs, whether or not you are baptised or christened and regardless of whether you go to church or not. It’s your church, and we welcome you! The law has changed, and we can offer more people the opportunity to marry so long as there is a ‘connection’ with the church. For more information on eligibility take a look at Legal aspects of marriage or contact us to find out whether this is the case. Even if you do not have an existing connection with us, you can always begin one by attending our services regularly. There are of course some circumstances where we are unable to conduct a service of marriage, but the vicar will be happy to discuss this with you discreetly and in confidence.

Same Sex Partnerships
It is not currently possible for same sex couples to get married in a
Church of England church.

Same sex couples can request special prayers of thanksgiving and blessing to be said for them as a way of celebrating their relationship. There are a variety of prayers which have been approved for use. These are known collectively as the Prayers of Love and Faith. It Is up to individual church ministers as to whether they will offer the prayers in their churches.
Tatty would be happy to talk through your options. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact her at revtatty@fordervalley.org.

Funerals
Our funeral ministry is an important way that we support our local community.
Our clergy team will help you plan and conduct a sensitive and appropriate funeral service for your family and loved one and are able to use either of our church buildings (St Edward’s Church, Eggbuckland or Christ Church, Estover) or in local crematoria or cemeteries. St Edward’s also has a special Churchyard that is still able to accept burials and interment for anyone who lives in the parish.

How to book a funeral or burial
If you would like more details about funerals services, fees or the churchyard please complete an enquiry form or contact the vicar, Rev Tatiana Wilson contact@fordervalley.org or call 01752 773422 and leave a message.

Forget-me-not Teas
Several times a year we have these opportunities for those who have lost loved ones to meet with our team and others and find mutual support and check-in. In November, this incorporates a special service of remembrance in the church.
